Alliance Jiu-jitsu Team Reformed and Stronger than ever!

Alliance Jiu-jitsu Team is making waves all over the world once again!!!The product of over 20 years of hard labor under Professor Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti, the Alliance Jiu-jitsu Team is back on top and is back stronger than ever with representatives worldwide. The jiu-jitsu team is now branching out and with Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Submission Wrestling and even the MMA ring!



-On October 14th in Montreal Quebec Canada, Alliance Jiu-jitsu black belt, Jeff Joslin, made his long awaited return to the MMA ring, and became the new APEX welterweight MMA champion. Joslin defeated a tough and experienced Nuri Shakir by TKO in the first round. ( www.jeffjoslin.ca). In the same event, Alliance Jiu-jitsu Brown Belt Rowan Cunningham won a 4 Man tournament to become the Canadian APEX Middleweight MMA Champion as well. ( www.abhaya.ca)



Jeff Joslin is also the head of the ALLIANCE CANADA Team which now has 2 academies in Ontario and is now planning to branch out through the rest of Canada with the help of ALLIANCE CANADA Brown Belt, and the co-coordinator of the Eastern European Connection, Dragan Konjevic . ALLIANCE CANADA will be hosting Canada’s largest and most prestigious grappling tournament November 12 th, called the Joslins Canadian Grappling Open. (www.joslinskarate.com)



-In Brazil, Alliance General Fabio Gurgel had the 1st Alliance Tournament in Sao Paulo, which was held at AABB CLUB this past Sat Nov 28 th . The tournament had more than 300 competitors and included the new addition of the TT Team, who recently became official Alliance members. Expect great things for the future of the team, as all of the Alliance schools now in Brazil are now competing under the new Alliance organization.



In other Alliance Brazil news, Tarsis Humphreys just won his weight division and the absolute division of the Sao Paolo State Federation tournament recently. He went on to fight another competition the same weekend where he won at his weight and took second in the absolute, losing only to Gabriel Napao 2X6. Tarsis had 11 matches that weekend! Also, newly joined Alliance member, Cobrinha, won the middle weight, since there were no fights in his category and got third in the absolute.



-In the United States, Alliance Jiu-jitsu’s founder, Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti and his long time student Mark Van Schuyver, recently released/published an awesome book in the market called BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU FIGHTING STRATEGIES by Paladin Press. The book is available at the Alliance academy in Sandy Springs (404 8430606), Jacare is very excited about the book that has many good interviews and pictures of his main students. There has been a lot of buzz about the book as it is much different than the other books on the market.



At the Alliance Downtown Academy, former ADCC Champion and World Jiu-jitsu champion Roberto “Spider” Traven, continues to train the troops, and will soon be celebrating his third year teaching in Atlanta with Jacare. Traven has done an excellent job creating new champions every day.



In other Alliance U.S. news, Jacare’s student Chris Moriarty just won the biggest challenge of his life and is the new ADCC North American Trials champion in the 87 kg division, wining 3 of his matches by submission. Chris has been on a terror starting this past summer where he fought in both the Copa do Mundo and Mundials placing 3 rd in both tournaments in his division and the absolute. Chris also recently won the brown belt division of the Copa Atlantica in New Jersey and closed out the Open weight Brown belt division with fellow Alliance member Josh Griffiths of Alliance New York.



Speaking of New York, Studio-X has been able to take full advantage of their new full time instructor Marcelo Garcia. Marcelinho has come on board to assist instructors Fabio Clemente and Babs Olusmankan and reinforce the already powerhouse team in the Big Apple. (www.studioxny.com). Marcelo just competied at a 4-Man tournament in Texas called the Ground Control Championship. Marcelo won the 4 man superfight division submitting the U.S.’s top grapplers Mike Fowler and Raphael Lovato Jr. Marcelo will also be competing in the LA SUB-X event in California. Alliance USA Team just recently won the Braza’s Brazillian Jiu-jitsu Open Tournament in North Carolina. With 2 teams representing Alliance as Jacares team from Atlanta as well as Luis Sucuri’s team came together to claim the team championship.



Also, after teaching a successful seminar in Philadelphia, Felipe “Zicro” Neto is spending a week training and helping classes at Alliance Atlanta with Jacare and he will be doing a seminar in Tallahassee Florida next weekend. Zicro has been helping with the reformation of the Alliance Team in Rio De Janeiro together with Alexandre Paiva and Fernando Gurgel.



-Alliance Founder Romero “Jacare” will soon be heading to Europe for a series of seminars. The first will be in France with Alexandre Paiva black belt Hugo Fevrier and Paulo Sergio. Also, Jacare will be going to Croatia, Zagreb with Dubravko and Ilja, then in Splitz with Petar and finally Slovenia. The Alliance Croatia Team has been dominating the Eastern Europe grappling scene recently winning the Zagreb Submission Wrestling Championship.



Following his trip to Croatia Jacare will be conducting a seminar also In France, with Alliance Jiu-jitsu Black belt Hugo Fevrier. Hugo was victorious in his grappling superfight in the Absolute Submission Fignting Championships against Medhy “Medhakim”Youhet ( De La Riva). Hugo submitted his opponent via kimura!



-In Japan, Alliance Jiu-jitsu fighter from Vitoria Brazil, Rodrigo Damm, recently defeated Japanese fighter Naoki Seki in the first round of the Mars REAL DEAL event! Rodrigo is also the multiple time defending champion of the Sao Joao de Barra Submission Wrestling Event in Brazil.



As the year draws closer to an end, a new beginning and path will begin for the Alliance team. You can expect to hear more news from the Alliance Team all over the world. Through Jiu-jitsu, Submission Wrestling and now MMA, the Alliance Team is truly back stronger than ever. With new direction and determination, it is destined to regain the prestige it had in the past.
