Bud Cup Quick Results

Great two days of jiujitsu and grappling here in Concord, North Carolina at the Bud Cup. Promoter Joe Hurst out does himself as the tournament was the largest and smoothest running one yet.

Saturday was gi actiion, and black belt Diego Saravia submitted a game Chris Crawford (brown belt) with a baseball bat choke. In more brown belt action Chris Moriarty submitted Scott Davis with a triangle choke. Andrew Smith won the purple belt middleweight division.

The second day had submission grappling competition and the pro divisions. For the first ever Budweiser Women’s Professional Division Caryn May won the title. The lightweight division (under 160) was won by Diego Saravia, who bested Binky Jones in a great match. In the middleweight division (under 200), Chris Moriarty looked very impressive starting the division with a spectacular flying armlock and winning the title by rear naked choking Rick Macauley. In the heavyweight division Jeff Monson submits Andrew Smith (who gave up considerable size in this division but did pull off a submission victory of his own).
