Nashville Open Pics and Video

Nashville Grappling Open Nashville, TN, July 23, 2005 Nashville Grappling Open Nashville, TN, July 23, 2005 I’ve lost count on how many tournaments we’ve been to in Nashville over the years. As you readers have probably figured out by now, it’s one of my favorite destinations in the United States ; come for the southern hospitality, stay for the jiu jitsu. Happily, the jiujitsu scene in the area gets larger and larger each year as more and more people are discovering the art, and those who have been training for awhile get better and better. The one day tournament consisted of both Brazilian JiuJitsu divisions and Submission Grappling divisions later in the day. While some competitors chose to concentrate on one or the other, many participants actually entered both. The gi divisions saw up to purple belts compete. Chris Moriarty from Alliance in Atlanta had a dominating performance, winning both his weight class (the over 175 division and the Absolute divisions) submitting everyone except for local grappler Cliff, whom he met in the finals of both divisions. (Chris would also defeat Cliff one more time in the no gi division). A few more people entered the the submission grappling divisions, which saw some good action. Even after a long say of competition, many would also enter the absolute division (open to any interested competitor) which Ray Casias won in smothering fashion. The overall title was won by Nashville MMA. We will return for the Music City Grappling Championships on September 10th and 11th.
