TUF 20 Semifinals are finalized and we are one step closer to a new champion being crowned.
Will any underdogs make it out of the TUF 20 TUF 20 Semifinals?
The TUF 20 Semifinals are set and on one side they have number one ranked Carla Esparza who has battle her way to the semis. She faced 1-0 unknown Angela Hill in the first round and won by submission. Her next fight was not nearly impressive when she took on number three ranked Tecia Torres who she beat, but no one thought is was that impressive.
Her opponent in the TUF 20 Semifinals had a lot more impressive showings during the reality show. Number four ranked Jessica Penne came up a weight class after being the Atomweight champion in Invicta FC. She captured a submission in the first round over Lisa Ellis and then had one of the best fights on the show against Aisling Daly. With her and Esparza fighting for a spot in the final, they are guaranteed to have a former champion and a top five opponent in the final.
The opposite side of the bracket will have a surging underdog facing to top seeds. You will either have Rose Namajunas or Randa Markos who are ranked seventh and fourteenth respectively. Rose has submitted her way to the TUF 20 Semifinals by taking out Australian born fighter Alex Chambers and Scottish born fighter Joanne Calderwood both by submission. Randa Markos was easily impressive being one of the only underdogs to beat a top ranked fighter in the opening round when she first took out Tecia Torres. She followed that up submitting number six ranked Felice Herrig.
The winners of those fights but the losers are also getting a fight in the Octagon as well even if they did not make it to the TUF 20 Semifinals. Joanne Calderwood faces Korean import See Hoo Ham, Tecia Torres takes on perpetual loudmouth Angela Magana, Aisling Daly takes on Alex Chambers, Felice Herrig faces off with Lisa Ellis, Bec Rawlings fights Heather Jo Clark, and lastly, Emily Kagan is matched with Angela Hill.
