UFC Fight Night Jacare vs Mousasi Recap The Undercard

If you were to base this card on the undercard there would not be too much to look forward to as the first three fights all went to decision, and they were not the most entertaining decisions. Chas Kelly did make a new record winning two fights in a span of 13 days, Chris Beal took his second win in his return to the UFC, and Rafael Natal was booed relentlessly when he took a split decision over Chris Camozzi.

Leave it to a Serra-Longo product to know how to amp a crowd up. Al Iaquinta had something prove after getting caught in a choke his last fight, and he took out his frustrations of Rodrigo Damm. Iaquinta battered his opponent so bad that Herb Dean almost had to stop it when Damm would not stand back up. Unfortunately for Damm, he stood back up only to get beaten back down for a stoppage loss at 2:41 of round 3.

Another fighter who was mad after his last fight was John Moraga, because his fight with John Dodson was stopped prematurely. Also, no one gave him a shot against hot prospect Justin Scoggins. Luckily he believed in himself and as he was taken down continually, he never gave up on his guillotine which he locked up just 47 seconds into round 2 for the win. That was the UFC Fight Night Jacare vs Mousasi Recap for the Undercard but now lets move on to the main card!

UFC Fight Night Jacare vs Mousasi Recap The Main Card

Opening up the main card, Joe Lauzon made his return after family issues kept him out of the cage, and he had to return against the ultra tough TUF winner Michael Chiesa. Lauzon looked to be fading in the second round after winning the first, but in vintage Lauzon fashion when he was tired he started to pour it on. Opening up a huge cut over Chiesa’s eye the fight had to be stopped. Chiesa opined for a rematch in the post-fight interview, but with two straight wins Lauzon may be on to a bigger fight.

UFC Fight Night Jacare vs Mousasi Recap

Matt Mitrione and Ben Rothwell were counted out by almost everyone since they were facing off with heavy handed knockout artist Derrick Lewis and Alistair Overeem respectively. Mitrione felt slighted as being cast as the underdog and he made it known to the fans, the journalist in attendance and his opponent. At 35 years old, Mitrione has started to gain power in his hand having knocked out his last three wins in the first round. Rothwell attributes his own first round knockout to believing in himself. By looking at him next to Overeem, you would not have expected him to be the victor, but ultimately he stopped the Dutchman cold in the first round.

In the main event, Gegard Mousasi took on Jacare Souza in a rematch six years int he making. Souza was relentless in his attack to take it to the ground and outside of a few fateful up kicks, Mousasi was never able to get started. The end came in the third round when Mousasi was pinned against the cage and Souza wrapped up a guillotine to end the fight. Souza deserves the next title shot after having seven straight wins with all but one being a finish. Mousasi needs to reassess, but you have to remember he is only 29 and has plenty of time to come back to challenge for the title, only time can tell though. That is all for the UFC Fight Night Jacare vs Mousasi Recap remember to come back and check for the matches to make column from this card!

Alright that is it for the UFC Fight Night Jacare vs Mousasi Recap! Check back next week when the UFC heads to Brazil for another rematch this time between Andrei Arlovski and Antonio Silva.
