Cesar Gracie

Cesar Gracie is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who trains a number of top fighters in Pleasant Hill, California. He was knocked out in twenty-one seconds by Frank Shamrock in San Jose, CA on March 10, 2006 in California's first ever sanctioned mixed martial arts event.

Biography

Cesar received his black belt from Carlos "Carlinhos" Gracie Jr, the son of Carlos Gracie who along with brother Helio Gracie are the co-founders of "Gracie Jiu Jitsu" later to be called Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Cesar's students include black belt David Terrell, brown belts Nick Diaz, Jake Shields, and Gil Castillo, as well as purple belt sensation Gilbert Melendez. Cesar Gracie is also well known for his DVD instructional series, which is considered by those in the MMA community as the best example of video instruction in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu skills, even more than those made by celebrated Gracie family members Renzo and Royler. Cesar's instructionals are widely acclaimed due to the robustness of grappling techniques, submission skills, and street fighting counters and really good transitional submission techniques in his Jiu-Jitsu DVDs, not to mention Cesar's clearer accent and modern teaching style.
