Mauricio 'Tinguinha' Mariano was born on February 13th, 1975 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mauricio started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 12 at the suggestion of his brother and friends. He comes from the powerful and famous Gracie Barra school which is the source of many of today's best fighters and instructors. Mauricio's first instructor was Jean-Jacques Machado and he has trained from the blue belt to this day with Carlos Gracie Jr. after Jean Jacques moved to the US. Mauricio has achieved many titles in all of the major tournaments in Brazil and the US. He was promoted to black belt at the age of 21 by his professor Carlos Gracie Jr. and has been teaching ever since. Mauricio is one of the pioneers in the expansion of the Gracie Barra's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaching system as well as a contributor in the expansion of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu around the world. Mauricio has taught in Brazil (including in the Gracie Barra-Brazil school , USA and Japan. In 2000 he moved to the US and today owns and operates one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in California - The Tinguinha Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school has been located in Anaheim, Fullerton, and now Yorba Linda in Orange County where everyday he teaches the knowledge and highly effective techniques he learned in Brazil.
