Rafael Lovato Sr.

A former boxer, Rafael began studying martial arts in 1972, and has trained extensively with many of the world's most respected and highly acclaimed martial artists. He is a certified instructor in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Muay Thai, and Escrima under renown martial artist Richard Bustillo. Rafael is also a certified coach/trainer with the United States Amateur Boxing Federation, a certified ASP Baton Instructor, Handler 12 Instructor, Law Enforcement Tactical Defense Instructor, and Custody and Control Instructor.
In addition, Rafael received his Black Belt under internationally acclaimed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Carlos Machado. In November 1996 Rafael distinguished himself by becoming the first martial arts instructor in Oklahoma to be granted permission by Mr. Machado to teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Rafael is now the Official Representative of the Saulo Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Association in the State of Oklahoma and the Lovato School of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the only fully accredited Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in the state.
A multi-talented man, Rafael is also a classically trained professional musician and served as choir master and organist for the Roman Catholic and Episcopal Dioceses of Cincinnati, Ohio for over ten years. He speaks three languages and is also educated as a health care professional. He has trained Olympic athletes, professional boxers, and is the head coach of the Lovato Competition Team which has distinguished itself repeatedly in local, national, and international competition.
Rafael's son, Rafael Lovato Jr. is a very successful BJJ competitor.
