History

  • 4th Degree Black Belt Carlson Gracie Team
  • Over 15 years of studying and training under Professor and Master Carlson Gracie Sr.
  • Over 9 years of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Carlson Gracie Team
  • Two-time Brazilian National Champion and many times Regional Champion of Rio de Janeiro, in weight-class and absolute (open weight category)

Rey is a 4th Degree Black Belt from the legendary Carlson Gracie Sr. who started BJJ under Carlson during the days of Carlson's Powerhouse BJJ Team (the members of which went on to form the Brazilian Top Team and the American TopTeam).


Rey has since moved to California and opened a successful school and still competes from time to time to test his skills (picking up 2 Golds at the recent CBJJ Pan American Championships.

His academy carries on many of the traditions and routines that were seen in the old Carlson Gracie Team.

He is the instructor of BJJ Brown Belt (and internet Legend) Andreh Anderson whos articles have appeared multiple times in the pages of Grappling Magazine.


Teaching

Carlson Gracie Academy
Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro Brasil 1990-1994 Began teaching when only a blue belt for kids - 3 to 16 years old, later on advancing to teaching adults class. Taught there for 4 years.

Rio Sport Center
Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro Brasil 1993-1994 Became part of the Carlson Gracie Competition Team in Rio. Taught adult clasess at the Rio Sport Center in Copacabana.

Gold's Gym - Carlson Gracie Jr. Team
Chicago, Illinois USA 1996-1997 Ricardo Diogo was invited to be partner/instructor at Carlson Gracie Jr.'s academy. Taught there for a year and a half.

Los Angeles Jiu-Jitsu Academy
Los Angeles, California USA 1997-1998 Ricardo Diogo was invited to open up his own school in California. This academy also was the headquarters to Carlson Gracie Team training, to train it's fighters for any upcoming competitions. Fighters such as Vitor Belfort, Wallid Ismail, Carlao Barreto, Murilo Bustamante, etc. Taught kids and adults class.
