Rigan Machado is a 7th Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu earning his rank under Carlos Gracie Jr. He is a former Jiu-Jitsu world champion and a veteran of the ADCC. He currently teaches out of his California Academy.

He and his brothers are known for being some of the highly skilled teachers of the art of brazilian jiu-jitsu. A excellent competitor in his youth, Rigan competed in different arts so that the best techniques he learned could be incorporated into the Machados' expression of jiu-jitsu. Besides bjj, Rigan competed in wrestling, sambo, and no gi matches to help better his technical proficiency. It was said that the only thing that could hold Rigan back when he was competing was himeself. Rigan now spends time putting out excellent instructional material and continues to teach to a large number of practitioners from his academy.

Rigan is also known for promoting some of the early american bjj blackbelts. Some of the early american bjj blackbelts promoted by the Machados include David Meyer, Chris Haueter, Rick Williams, and Bob Bass.
