The University of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the work of Saulo Ribeiro and is meant to provide a structured, well rounded approach to the instruction of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The University is located in San Diego, California, one of the hubs of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the United States.

Only eighty students will be accepted at the University at any one time. To be accepted into the University, the prospective student must bring authorization from his current instructor demonstrating that the professor has given his or her knowledge of the student's intention to join the University. Further, there will be a "moral questionnaire" of 30 questions developed by Saulo and Royler Gracie which the prospective student must complete to the satisfaction of the instructors, to ensure that students will be of high moral character.

Classes will include yoga, judo, Alvaro Romano's ginastica natural, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Emphasis will be on learning Brazilian Portuguese related to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Required reading includes "The Gracie Way" by Kid Peligro for a perspective on the origins of the martial art.

One's progress at the University is dependent upon performance in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, moral development, and fulfillment of minimum number of hours devoted to each individual subject. Students will not be permitted to train no-gi until they are blue belts. Assuming satisfactory completion of University requirements, the curriculum is designed to take a student from white belt to black belt in six years.
