The biggest fight announced for this card today had to be the addition of Will Brooks the former Bellator Lightweight champion. He made his debut, on short notice, taking on Ross Pearson and beating him by decision. He called for a fight with top Lightweight Edson Barbosa, but he will have to settle for the Brazilian they call Cowboy. Alex Oliveira has been going between Lightweight and Welterweight but has only had two fights at 155 going 1-1 and at 170 he has gone 3-1 with his most recent being a decision win. Now, both fighters may have a chance to break into he top ten with a win here.
Sergio Pettis looks to extend his win streak to three at 125 as he is set to take on Louis Smolka who has won four straight with three finishes. Smolka just TKOd Ben Nguyen a little over two weeks ago and Pettis last fight was in April where he won by decision. If Smolka can get past Pettis though, he may be one more fight from the title since he would be on such big win streak.
Also, on the card will be Nate Marquardt who has gone 2-4 since returning to the UFC and has had three knockout losses in those four losses. Another loss here would spell the end of his UFC tenure most likely, but he is only 1-1 in his past two fights. He will take on Tamdan McCrory who returned to the UFC to go 1-1 with a submission win and a knockout loss. This will be his third fight in less than a eight months and a win over Marquardt would do a lot for his career.
Another big fight is Josh Burkman trying to get another win at 155. He won big in his debut taking on KJ Noons but had a very close loss to Paul Felder in his next fight. He will be taking on Bobby green who knows about losing big after getting knocked out clean in his last fight against Dustin Poirier. These fight should make for a good free card come October.
