Predictions UFC 188 will tell you who we think will win all the big fights this weekend including the Heavyweight title fight. Do you agree with our picks?
Predictions UFC 188: Main Event
Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum
This is a fight for all the titles, interim and legitimate Heavyweight title. Velasquez has been off for an extensive 19 months due to injuries which lead to the interim title being created. In fact, this will be the first time in five years that Velasquez has not fought someone named Junior dos Santos or Antonio Silva. This fight is an interesting one considering that on the ground Werdum should have the advantage and standing it is varied. Werdum definitely has the more diverse striking while Velasquez has the speed advantage. Werdum has a slight chance of winning, but the time off with hurt Velasquez who falls to Werdum in the second round via submission.
Predictions UFC 188: Co-Main Event
Gilbert Melendez vs. Eddie Alvarez
This is a fight many years int he making as these two spent the majority of their time outside of the Octagon fighting for other organizations. In the end, they both ended up in the UFC and now are finally going to face each other. The question is whether Melendez is still elite level after falling to Anthony pets bad in his last fight. Alvarez fell to Cerrone but it was a decent fight overall. Melendez is going to try and grind in this fight by putting Alvarez agains the cage and eventually take him to the ground. Alvarez has to make this a true fight and if he does that he will grind out a hard fought decision victory.
Predictions UFC 188: Undercard
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Nate Marquardt
Gastelum has to move up in weight after multiple failed attempts to make the Welterweight division. Maquardt is a tough fighter but not the fighter he used to be as evident by his match with Brad Tavares. Gastelum will have to deal with a potentially bigger fighter than he is used to, but that is okay considering he took on Uriah Hall and won. Outside of the advantage in striking, Marquardt is facing a younger, more dynamic, and aggressive fighter. Look for that to win Gastelum this fight by TKO in the second round.
