UFC on Fox 15 has had its main event announced with it being a big matchup for the next contender in the Middleweight division. Who will come out on top?
UFC on Fox 15 goes back to New Jersey since the sport is still not allowed in New York, so the state next door just gets more revenue flowing in.
UFC on Fox 15 has a main event pitting two former champions against each other. Former Light-Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida looks for his next flawless victory as he takes on former Strikeforce Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. While they still have to contend with Yoel Romero, Jacare Souza, and Anderson Silva, this is a fight to ascend to potential number one or two in the division.
Lyoto Machida will have his second fight since losing his title bid to current champion Chris Weidman. He is coming off a little over a minute blitzkrieg of CB Dollaway in his last fight. Now, he takes on Rockhold who has similarly been racking up the wins.
While Rockhold lost to TRT Belfort in his UFC debut, he has won three straight fights since then. 2014 was stellar with three straight finishes of Costa Phillippou, Tim Boestch and Michael Bisping. This fight will take place in April where the fifth and third ranked middleweights will face off. The only other matchup for the card has with veteran UFC fighter Mann Gamburyan looking to continue to reinvent himself at Bantamweight. After submitting Cody Gibson last September to take on undefeated prospect Aljamain Sterling.
Sterling also defeated Gibson, in his debut, but only took it by decision. Then he went on to defeat Hugo Viana, a TUF veteran, by knockout in July of last year. He was lined up for three more fights but injuries to himself and his opponents left him out of the Octagon. Now, he has a chance to reassert himself in the division as UFC on Fox 15.
