UFC on Fox 20 a Dud?

UFC on Fox 20 is set to take place in July after the big weekend featuring UFC 200, and while a litany of events are headed up by title fights it seems the UFC has ran out. Given they may be scraping the barrel with the UFC 201 main event of Tyron Woodley facing off with Robbie Lawler for the Welterweight title, but this event is headlined by Holly Holm, a former champion, and Valentina Shevchenko, who? Yes, a fighter coming off a loss with two fights in the UFC. This is a card that will air on Fox as opposed to the Fight Pass card a few weeks earlier with RDA putting his title on the line against Eddie Alvarez and the Fox Sports 1 card that has Claudia Gadelha taking on Joanna for the title in a big rematch.

From there you look to the undercard to see if it is properly supported, but of course, so far, it is not. Felice Herrig returns from a year layoff and a loss to take on Kalin Curran, relative unknowns Tony Martin and Michael Prazeres face off while Eddie Wineland looks for just his second win in five fights when he takes on Frankie Saenz. There are also three other bouts that are barely worth mentioning. The only redeemable fight happens in the Lightweight division.

Edson barboza fresh off the biggest win of his career over former Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis takes on a man that was beaten soundly by Pettis in Gilbert Melendez, wait what? Yes, Melendez fresh off a year suspension due to a failed drug test and only 1-3 in his UFC, two of those fights were for the title, is ready to take on a top five Lightweight. This is a man whose only win in the Octagon comes over Diego Sanchez. Now, he is set to face Barboza who yes sits at 6-3 in the same span as Melendez’s 1-3 run. While it is an intriguing fight, one has to question the match making as what does a Melendez win mean? Then again, having a name like Melendez on his resume still does something for Barboza especially if it is a big win.
