Ian McCall and John Lineker were already supposed to fight in an unofficial number one contenders match for Demetrious Johnson’s flyweight title. Unfortunately, McCall had to drop out the day of the fight due to illness. Now the two will duke it out come January 31st to see who may earn a shot at the title. McCall had a rough start to his UFC career after he lost to fight and had a draw, but he has bounced back with two straight wins. Lineker may have already been in line for a title shot, but his inability to make weight hurt his chances. He fixed that issue but a loss to Ali Bagautinov, but with one win under his beltĀ and a potential win over McCall he may get that title shot after all.

This is a rematch over four years in the making for a fight that ended in a rare draw in MMA. Thiago Tavares was fighting in his eight UFC fight which but it was only Nik Lentz’s second fight. Now both 30, both of them are 14 and 15 fights into their UFC tenure respectively. Both have found new life in their UFC career by dropping to 145. Lentz has gone 4-1 while Tavares captured a first round submission in his Featherweight debut. A win here for either veteran could pop them up into the top ten of 145.
