UFC Fight Announcements: August 6th, 2015

Not every fight is a big fight, but all fighters need time to build their resumes before fighting the top ten or to rebuild after a loss. The first fight tonight comes from the Ultimate Fight Night 78 card in Brazil on November 7th where the undefeated Gilbert Burns will take on the once beaten Rashid Magomedov. Also, in a Heavyweight battle heavy hitters Anthony Hamilton and Derrick Lewis will face off at UFC 192 in Houston, Texas on October 3rd.

The 29 year old Gilbert Burns hails from Brazil and has been undefeated os far through ten fights. He finished all but one of his fights, but that was taken out of his natural weight class when he signed with the UFC. Since returning to Lightweight, he has taken our Christos Giagos by armbar in the first round and Alex Olivera by the same submission in the third. His opponent, Rashid Magomedov, has pulled off 11 straight wins since the first loss of his career which was only by split decision. He signed with the UFC after winning and defending the M-1 Welterweight title and so far has been flawless with three straight wins. His biggest win was a TKO victory over Elias Silverio earlier this year.

Derrick Lewis seemed to be the next big thing at Heavyweight after earning seven straight knockout victories including two in the UFC. Unfortunately, a run in with the one they call Matt “Meathead” Mitrione cause him to be defeated by TKO himself. He rebounded with his own TKO finish but once again was felled in a rematch with Shawn Jordan. In Anthony Hamilton, he faces another heavy hitter who has had his ups and downs in the UFC going 2-2.Whoever wins this will go further in the division and the loser may take one step closer to unemployment.
