Heavy Hitters get set for The Reckoning

On Saturday 13th September 2008 The Rivermead Complex, Reading UK will host a night of World Class Mixed Martial Arts action including three World Title fights at FX3 “X”treme Brawl 9 “The Reckoning”.FX3 “X”treme Brawl is one of the UK & Europe’s leading MMA & UK-1 Cage Fighting events and currently holds one of the largest crowd attendance’s in the UK with an average of 2500 fans in attendance.

The Vacant Heavy Weight Title is up for grabs as K1 Veteran James McSweeney takes on Birmingham based fighter Chris Cooper.James McSweeney is a K1 veteran standing 6ft 3inch tall and is known for his heavy hands and has an extensive back ground in Kick Boxing and K1. He holds some impressive wins over fighters such as Michael McDonald and Mark Buchanan. However his opponent Chris Cooper is no stranger to the fight game with a current MMA record of 3 wins and only 1 loss. Cooper is the former sparing partner of Pele Reid and is a student of Muay Thai Champion Peter Hefford. Both guys like to stand and trade and this has the makings of a Knock Out title fight.

Ryan Robinson will be putting his Light Heavy Weight Championship on the line against a very confident Denniston Sutherland who has recently claimed to be the Number one Light Heavy Weight in the UK. Ryan is a veteran of the sport and has been in the cage against a who’s who of opponents including Ian Freeman, Rob Broughton, Cyrille Diabate and Mark Epstein. Denniston has only been competing professionally for the last year but already has a record of 6 wins and 2 losses and is coming of 3 straight wins. This is defiantly a put up or shut up match up as Sutherland has publically called out the best and Robinson has willingly accepted his call.

The third title fight on the card is for the UK-1 Heavy Weight Title. FX3 veteran Pete “Kurgan” Mercer is currently unbeaten in his professional career with 4 wins and no losses (2 by way of KO) however he makes a huge step up as he faces off against the 24 year old Italian Will Riva. Will has over 15 professional wins on his record and has competed all over the world including in Japan and Poland. He has been inside the Ring with some top opposition such as Tonooka Masanori, Lukasz Jarosz and Dillon White. Both guys are predicting a KO victory so hold tight as sparks are defiantly going to fly..

Poland’s Heavy Weight fighter Popek Rak is also making his FX3 debut on the card. Popek is well known for his heavy hands and aggression inside the cage and he is currently unbeaten with 2 wins and no losses to his name. Popek will face off against Sander Duyvis who is fighting out of Mikes Gym in Holland. This will be Sander’s second professional MMA bout however he defiantly has experience in the ring with numerous K1 fights against the likes of Ewout Mundt and Brian Douwes.

Also fighting out of Mikes Gym in Holland is light weight fighter Danny Ver Bergan. Danny is currently 04:04:02 and in his last outing in the UK he suffered a loss to UFC fighter Terry Etim. This time round he faces the unbeaten Tim Radcliffe who is currently 04:00:00 and is making a name for himself as one to watch in the UK. Both guys are submission specialists and both want the win so expect a very fast paced and exciting match up.

Jason Jones not only looks similar in build but is also the training partner of K1 and MMA legend Melvin Manheof. However Lloyd Clarkson has never been one to worry about size of his opponent in a fight and has been known in the past to give away over 10Kilos in weight. Lloyd recently defeated Muscle man Jeff Hayes at FX3 “X”treme Brawl 8 and then lost a narrow decision last month to Tom “Kong” Watson. Jason is a M1, King of the Cage and K1 veteran and judging by his record likes to win by any means possible. Both fighters have very rounded skills and this looks set to possibly be the fight of the night!.

Stepping out of the ring and into the cage – Jamie Hearn a Pro Boxer with 18 professional bouts under his belt will be making his MMA debut. Hearn’s last professional Boxing bout was back in June 2006 before he made the switch and starting training MMA. He will be making his debut against Steve Dossett who has an MMA record of 03:01:00 but is better known as a kickboxer. With both guys having a background in stand up will they be willing to stand with each other or not??

The under card includes two more Heavy Weight match ups with Elite fighter Irvin Daniels taking on Roman Ship from Russia and Linton Vassell from Total Dojo against Chris Greig .Jimi Manuwa will face off against Dave Rintal in light heavy weight action and in the Middle weight division local fighter Rocci Williams is hoping to return to his winning ways as he takes on up and comer Alex Evans from Wales.Phil Pullen returns to UK-1 action after his epic battle against Martin Goink at FX3 “X”treme Brawl 8 to face current Cage Rage Light Weight MMA British Champion Jason Young.
