5th Arizona International Open of BJJ (March 13-14, 2010)

Making its debut as an International event, the 5th Arizona International Open of BJJ welcomes two more Black Belt competitors with worldwide recognition. 2009 Pan American Jiu-Jitsu runner-up and 2009 European champion Kron Gracie (Rickson Gracie) is set to compete against 2009 U.S. National No-Gi champion, GracieMag #2 Fighter to Watch in 2010, and Gracie Barra stand-out Philipe Della Monica (Gracie Barra) in a middleweight match.

Witness all the action, along with the featherweight match-up between seven-time world champion Robson Moura (Nova União) and 2009 Japanese National champion Nobuhiko Kitahara (Axis JJ) at the 5th Arizona International Open of BJJ on March 13-14, 2010 in Mesa, Arizona.

Registration:

The GD JIU-JITSU Events in association with the Arizona State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (AZSBJJF) is proud to announce the 5TH ARIZONA INTERNATIONAL OPEN OF BJJ. The competition will take place on March 13th & 14th at the Westwood High School located at 945 W. 8th St. in Mesa, AZ 85201.

Gracie Mag will be covering the event.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition will offer kids, juveniles, Adult (Male and Female), Masters and Senior Divisions. We have just added Masters Division for Purple, Brown, and Black Belts.

IMPORTANT: Registration will be closed for the Kids division after 180 competitors. Registration for Juveniles, Adults, Masters, Seniors, and Women will be closed after 350 competitors.

For the FIRST time ever, GD Jiu-Jitsu Events will be offering FREE tournament T-Shirts to ALL Kids competitors who Pre-Register for the 5th AZ International Open of BJJ! To receive a FREE Competitor’s T-Shirt, parents must me sure to register their child by the PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE on MARCH 5TH @ 11:59 p.m. Competitors registered AFTER this time will NOT receive a T-Shirt.

Each competitor must fill out the registration form online. The Pre-registration fee is $50 for the adults and juveniles (16-17 yrs) or and $40 for the kids division until March 5th. After this date, $60 for adults and juveniles and, $50 for the kids.

All registrations must be received by Wednesday, March 10th by 11:59 pm. No registrations after this date. Registration fees are non-refundable. No exceptions.

Click for larger imageThe brackets will be released before the tournament. On Friday, October 9th, the brackets will be available online at our website.

IMPORTANT: The weigh in system is the same used by IBJJF. The competitor will weigh in before his first match. If you don’t make weight, you will be immediately disqualified. Please make sure that you are in the correct weight category. You cannot change divisions, if you do not make your designed division. No changes will be accepted on the day of the tournament, and no refunds will be made. We offer an extra scale for people to check their weights before.

IMPORTANT: Each academy can only have two athletes in the same division (of age/weight/belt). If your academy has problems regarding the number of athletes in each division, please send e-mail to gdjiujitsu@azsbjjf.com.

This is a sport with rules, and making weight for your division is part of the rules. In order to maintain the integrity of our tournament and the sport we STRICTLY enforce this policy, so please take responsibility and show up to the tournament at the correct weight for your division!

Adults Division – The tournament is single elimination. Medals will be awarded to the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place of each division. Athletes will not compete for the third place. Two bronze medals will be given.

Kids Division – Every competitor will receive an improved 3.5" medal, and a Diploma. This is a single elimination tournament, but if the child loses in the semi-final, they will compete again. Top 4 are guaranteed in the podium.

HIGHLIGHTS and PRIZES !!!!

* All Juvenile, adult, master and senior competitors will receive a Tournament T-Shirt and a free issue of Gracie Magazine;


* The top three Kids schools will receive awards;


* The top three BJJ schools will receive awards;


* All kids competitors will receive a medal, a certificate and a raffle ticket for a chance to win a PSP (Regardless of win or loss);


* The winners of the Juvenile and Adult Female Division have a chance to win a Flip Video Recorder;


* The winners of the Juvenile, adult, master and senior Divisions have a chance to win a 32" LCD Flat Screen TV;

You must win at least one match in order to qualify for the raffle!!!!
