The Blackmat Foundation has finally moved out of the garage and into a new 1750 sq-ft location in the City of Whittier, 12200 East Washington Blvd, Whittier, Ca. 90606. After completing our first month we have had many new kids and young adults, ranging from 7 years old to 25 years old signing up.
Our vision still remains the same, to reach as many “at risk kids” possible. The programs we offer are an after school program; we have kids do their homework before working out. We have tutors, which are other students give back and help each child. Our goal is to have “ALL” the kids that come to Black Mat graduate from Junior or High School. Our goal is to have each child walk down with their “CAP & GOWN” at graduation. We also have a Drug and Alcohol educational program; we have a Fitness program where we help each child with diet and exercise to help them lose weight. Many kids have self-esteem issues because of their weight. We also have a Bible Study each Wednesday. We counsel all of the children, young adults and parents.
We just finished hosting the East Los Angeles Sherriff Dept. “VIDA” program, which is an “at risk” program they have. They brought their kids down to experience the Black Mat Family. I just received an email from the Lakewood Sheriffs which will be coming in May. I am trying to have our Grand Opening in the summer. We have had many special people donate so much. A wrestling Mat, Lockers, Computers, Desks, Filing Cabinets, Bibles, TVs, Time, and most of all Love. I am still in “AWE” of how many people want to help the foundation and help these children. Since we have not received any grants yet, because we still don’t know how, we are relying on private donations. After paying rent, mirrors, sign, and supplies we have exhausted our funds. If you find it in your heart to donate to a worthy mission and cause. Please donate to the Black Mat Foundation during this special holiday “Easter”.
We are also asking for any training equipment or workout clothes for the kids.
