CXFEl Monte CAOctober 30, 2008El Monte Ca – With the scars healed but still visible from his last outing into the cage Jamie Fletcher (6-4) made his return to the ring last Thursday night against West Coast Jiu-jitsu fighter Nick Braker (1-3). Braker would be coming in off a lost and show to be just as hungry as Fletcher as the two met for an intense light heavyweight match.
As the bell would sound for round one it would be Braker who would push the pace and force Fletcher to use sprawl and brawl tactics to keep the 6’5” fighter at bay. Even though Braker would continue to attempt the takedown it would be Fletcher who would use those attempts to his advantage and catch the West Coast Jiu-jitsu in a guillotine choke that would force Braker to tap with less then thirty seconds left in the fight.
In the co-main event former TFA lightweight champion Toby “Tigerheart” Grear (5-5) would get back on the winning track as he would finish LBFN veteran Anthony Mcdavitt (3-4). Although for most of the fight Mcdavitt would dictate the takedowns it would be Grear’s perseverance that would carry him to victory that night. Using striking combinations cobbled with some great defensive Juijitsu skills he would eventually wear down and finish Mcdavitt with a soccer style kick to the body that would echo throughout the arena. In heavyweight action Tim “Big Perm” Persey (8-2) would only need 21 seconds to dismantle the nearly 400lbs Ross Clifton (6-7). Coming out fast Clifton would engage Persey with a hail of punches but find himself on the mat within a few seconds as the faster Persey would land the harder shots. Once on his back Clifton would appear to be a fish out of water as Persey would land more blows that would force the ref to stop the contest.
In an exciting 124lbs women’s match up Sophie Bagherdia (3-1) would out point fellow FFFC veteran Angela Hayes (1-4). For all three rounds both fighters would engage in an action packed bout which including furious striking exchanges, clinch fighting and grappling scrambles. In the end however it would be Bagherdia’s combinations that would sway the judges giving her the unanimous decision victory.
In middleweight action Reggie Orr (5-5-1) would use sprawl and brawl tactics to win a unanimous decision victory over Brazilian native Fernando Bettega (3-2). Brian Abram (2-0) that night would up his record to 3-0 as he would use strikes, wrestling and the top position to win his bout against new comer Andrew Patlan via unanimous decision.
In another Featherweight contest Angelo Catsoures (3-0) would show some impressive Jiu-jitsu skills as he would submit Cleber Jiu-jitsu and Chutebox fighter Ruben Vera via triangle choke.
In other action Devin Howard (1-1) fighting out of CSW would send Mano Taha (0-1) home still looking for his first victory in the ring as he would effectively use the top position to win a unanimous decision. In a welterweight contest King of the Cage veteran RJ Clifford (2-1) would use effective strikes cobbled with positional control and ground and pound to tire out and finish Dan Hernandez (2-4) via TKO that night. Finally on the card Francisco Rivera (1-0) would need less then a minute to catch new comer Chris Drumm with a one two combination that would send Drumm crashing to mat before the ref would stop the bout giving Rivera his second KO win.
