Madigan to make MMA debut
5/14/06 – Cleveland, OH: The countdown to Fight Nitein the Flats 2 has begun as less then thirty daysremain until four new champions are crowned inCleveland, Ohio. In addition to what is already astellar fight card, the Gladiators Fighting Seriesannounced this week that kickboxing champion Ryan “TheLion” Madigan will be making his pro MMA debut on June10th. Madigan, who is currently ranked #3 in the worldby the IKF and is unbeaten in two World Combat Leagueappearances, will look to make the transition to mixedmartial arts as a welterweight. “I am still veryfocused on my goal of becoming a world kickboxingchampion and excelling in the WCL but having theopportunity to fight in front of my home fans wassomething I could not pass up” said Madigan about hisupcoming bout.
Coming off a first round submission win on May 6th,UFC and Pride veteran Dan “The Bull” Bobish will lookto capture the GFS Super Heavyweight title when hetakes on three hundred pounder Erik Knox in thenight’s main event. Bobish, the former King of theCage Super Heavyweight Champion is looking forward tofighting in Cleveland where he resides and plans onshowing the world that “The Bull is back”!
Cleveland’s own Jeff Cox, a team mate of Bobish, willenter the cage for the last time as a fighter when hefaces Chris Myers for the GFS Welterweight Title. Cox,who is coming into his June 10th bout with a record of12-3 as a professional has decided to retire whilestill on top of his game and turn his attentions totraining the next generation of “Strong Style”fighters.
In a highly anticipated welterweight match-up, two ofthe top amateur gladiators will square off in afeatured preliminary bout. Philadelphia’s JoshMcBride, who is coming off an impressive but hardfought win over Team Griffon Rawl’s AJ Pulling lastweekend at Caged Fury, will face one of his toughestopponents to date in Team Strong Style’s “Smokin” JoeHeiland who is unbeaten in two fights. McBride andHeiland are currently ranked #1 and #2 by the NorthAmerican Amateur Fight Series and will both be lookingto take another step up in the GFS. In other amatueraction, current ICE Light Heavyweight Champion, Terry“The Punisher” Davinney (5-3) of Michigan battles WestVirginia’s Jason “The Wrecking” Ball Jones (5-2). Bothfighters are riding two fight win streaks and havetheir sites set on a future GFS title shot.
