Future Fights UFC 189 will tell you who we think all the big winners and losers from this weekend’s Biggest UFC card. Do you agree with us?
Future Fights UFC 189: Champions
Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor
This is the fight that needs to happen. Mcgregor just answered the issue that everyone had with him and yes he was taken down and held down, but he still got up and finished Mendes. Whether it was short notice or not, he still did something that only one other man has done and that is who he will fight next.
Robbie Lawler vs. Winner of Tyron Woodley vs. Johny Hendricks
Lawler took some damage and needs some time to heal. Baring GSP coming back to fight there is no clear cut number one contender in the division that is filled with people who have held the belt. Woodley and Hendricks could each make a claim for the next title shot, but it would be smarter to have them face off against each other just to give Robbie his biggest and most deserving challenge.
Future Fights UFC 189: Winners
Jeremy Stephens vs. Ricardo Lamas
Lamas is sitting at number 5 in the division and Stephens has proven himself to be a top ten fighter at 145. Stephens could still make a run at the title but both fighters are at 2-2 in their last four and only one deserves slot in the top ten. Let them face off to see who still has the juice in the division.
Gunnar Nelson vs. Ryan Laflare
Both of these fighters were thought to be the future of the welterweight division and both have had a huge setback in a loss. Let them face off against each other to see who still may be the future of the division.
Thomas Almedia vs. Frankie Saenz
Both are streaking at 135 and are relatively unknown. Let them face off because whoever wins will crack the top ten and may get that big name fighter that will in the end make them a name in the UFC.
Matt Brown vs. Winner of Jake Ellenberger vs. Stephen Thompson
Brown still proved to be one of the most dangerous fighters at 170 despite what is shown to be a lack of skill. He fought Thompson during his huge streak who has won four straight since that loss. Ellenberger has always been a top fighter to as long as Brown and depending on who wins, it will make a good fight for Brown.
Future Fights UFC 189: Losers
Chad Mendes vs. Frankie Edgar
Edgar has to wait around while Aldo and McGregor settle their differences in the cage. He should not sit out and should still stay fresh. Mendes and Edgar seem to have similar styles and to have a chance at beating whoever comes out as champion Edgar will need to prove he is better than Mendes to have a chance at beating them.
Rory MacDonald vs. Carlos Condit
MacDonald and Condit are both eager to get back to the title despite their losses in title fights. Conduit returned and many people believed he looked like a future champion. Still this rematch seems like a no-brainer. If Condit is truly back he should be able to win this fight, and if MacDonald is truly the second best in the division it is time for him to avenge one of his losses.
