UFC 186 will have the match Hector Lombard called for after his last win when he takes on GSP protege Rory MacDonald.

While the card does not have a main event yet, this is a big match up for the Welterweight division. With Robbie Lawler and Johnny Hendricks set to do battle for a third time this is the fight for the next title shot.

Rory MacDonald thought he secured himself a title shot with his last win which gave him three straight since his loss to current champion Robbie Lawler. That loss turned MacDonald around when he smashed through BJJ ace Demain Maia, Tyron Woodley and the former Strikeforce Welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine. Add to that is wins over the legend BJ Penn and Jake Ellenberger that is quite the resume of any title challenger. it just begs the question of what will happen if MacDonald secures the belt upon his former friend and training partner Georges St. Pierre.

Hector Lombard had a ton of heat when he signed to the UFC from Bellator on the strength of a nearly 25 fight win streak. Unfortunately, his campaign at Middleweight did not go as planned. He went 1-2 with losses to Yushin Okami and Tim Boestch around a win against current WSOF champion Rousimar Palhares. That prompted his drop to 170 where he has been flawless so far. He finished former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt, former number one contender Jake Shields, and Josh Burkman.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out with only three of five rounds. Lombard is known for getting tired but being very hard in the first one or two rounds. Combine that with his Judo and he could give MacDonald trouble who is not the fastest starter but is built for five round fights. We will find out come UFC 186.
