Indianapolis Jiu Jitsu Seminar with Carlson Gracie Jr. – Follow Up

Once again, Carlson Gracie Jr came to our school for a 2 hour seminar.  We worked on  a lot of different positions, but all followed the Carlson Gracie Team "no nonsense" style of Jiu Jitsu.  In attendance was 25+ students from all over Indianapolis.

Alan Stockman, the school owner and instructor, had asked students what they wanted to see and many requested learning more about the "deep half guad" position.  This position was sought after 5-10 years ago and is still alive somewhat today in competition, but it is not something that Alan has sought to concentrate on much at his school.  Carlson Gracie Jr began the evening talking about the deep half guard and how it is good to have a little understanding if you should arrive in the position but also emphasized on how the deep half is really ineffective and not a position that you should seek out when sparring or competing.  He also stated that the deep half is especially ineffective in a fight because if you do get stuck there you will get hit.  While it does work, there are much better options to choose from than the deep half guard.

Later we worked from a variety of positions:  side control, stand up, spider guard, closed and open guards.  There was some video taken during the seminar that will be posted on our YouTube Channel for anyone interested in viewing it.  We will also link it here in our News, so keep checking back over the next couple of days.

We plan to have Carlson Gracie Jr back again tentively in November.  Once we have a date it will be posted here and on our Facebook page.  Thanks for everyone that was in attendance!
