Loser Leaves UFC matches come around when fighters on losing streaks face off for the right to keep their job. Two matches announced today fit that bill.
Loser Leaves UFC: TUF 21 Finale
Willie Gates vs. Darrell Montague
This is a fight between to Flyweight prospects that have not lived up to their proposed skill in the Octagon. Montague came into the UFC after being ranked in the top five of 125 outside of the UFC and was treated like such. In his year and a half with the company, he has faced off with title challengers Kyoji Horiguchi and John Dodson. Now, he takes on Willie Gates who came to the UFC on short notice and faced another title challenger in John Moraga. He did okay in that fight but still lost which snapped a five fight win streak. Now, whoever losses this fight will most likely be looking for a new place to fight come the following Monday.
Loser Leaves UFC: UFC on Fox 16
Jessamyn Duke vs. Elizabeth Phillips
Duke is just another one of the first female version of TUF to fail to impress. Nearly every fighter from that season has a losing record in the Octagon if they have not already been cut. Duke herself will be without a job if she losses her next fight. Many thought for her to be the next big thing at nearly six foot and training with current champion Ronda Rousey, but despite winning her debut at the finale, she was knocked out by Leslie Smith and beaten by current number one contender Bethe Correia. She will have to prove her worth when facing off against Elizabeth Phillips who has also lost two straight in the Octagon. With their jobs on the line this could make for an interesting fight between two fighters that have a penchant for losing.
