MTX Audio entertained many of these hackers and programmers in the form of live MMA at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, which is adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the CES is held each year.Las Vegas, Nevada – Among the commotion of over 150,000 raging computer nerds flocking to Sin City for the international Consumer Electronics Show to stay in the proverbial know of the techno world, as well as to hear Bill Gates announce his retirement from his day-to-day duties at Microsoft, MTX Audio entertained many of these hackers and programmers in the form of live MMA at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, which is adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the CES is held each year.
MTX Audio, a leader in high performance mobile audio products, continued its support of MMA as it already sponsors its own MMA fight team. Its fight team includes many accomplished fighters such as UFC and WEC veteran Jamie Varner, TUF 3 veteran Jesse Forbes, BodogFight veterans and brothers Ray and Steve Steinbeiss, HDNet Fights veteran C.B. Dollaway, among others. On Tuesday, January 8, 2008, it hosted its first MMA show dubbed as MTX Fight Night. The event was a special VIP, invite only, MMA promotion featuring many of MTX’s fight team members and was tied-in to the CES, which along with the AVN Expo and Awards Show, has hit Las Vegas with a fury this week.
Fight #1:
The first fight of the night featured Estevan Payan, who is a soldier that has served three tours of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Army. He was able to prove his mettle in the cage, as well, by submitting MMA newcomer James Watson with a slick triangle choke at 2:09 of Round 2.
Fight #2:
The second fight of the night was one of personal interest for anyone familiar with the sport jiu-jitsu and submission grappling scene. It featured Jacob McClintock, who is well known for his high-level jiu-jitsu and success on the competitive grappling circuit. McClintock pleased his fans by easily dispatching his opponent Adam Liston with the quickest victory of the night. However, the manner he did it, surprised his grappling fans, as it wasn’t the way you’d expect from a Gustavo Dantas brown-belt. He showcased his lesser-known stand-up game by getting a quick KO victory just 39 seconds into the fight.
Fight #3:
The third fight on the card saw local Las Vegas policeman Chris Kennedy in a surprising bout against ShoXC veteran Brendan Tierney. Kennedy earned the victory when Tierney’s corner stopped the fight, as he wasn’t able to answer the bell for the final round, after the beating he endured in the first 10 minutes.
Fight #4:
The fourth fight of the night was a seesaw battle between Brett Chisum and Robert Scott that went the distance. Whatever it lacked in closure, it made up for in excitement. The two combatants traded takedowns as well as the control of the fight throughout all three rounds. In the end though, Scott was able to cause more damage that earned him the hard fought Split Decision victory over Chisum.
Fight #5 (Co-Main Event):
Steve Steinbeiss dominated his match-up with Wayne Andrews. He started by scoring the takedown about one minute into the fight. Once on the ground Steinbeiss took over and made short work of Andrews’ ground defense, as he submitted him with a tight arm-triangle choke at 2:11 of the first round. After the fight, Steinbeiss seemed confusingly critical of himself by saying, “I wanted to give everyone a knockout. I would have been happier if I could give everyone the knockout.” In any case, he did his job, and gave the jiu-jitsu fans in attendance something to cheer about.
Fight #6 (Co-Main Event):
Jesse Forbes, who is best known as Ken Shamrock’s #1 overall pick on TUF 3, looked good after taking some time off after his unsuccessful debut in the WEC in September. He never gave his opponent Victor Moreno a chance to give the crowd a competitive main event. Forbes immediately used his wrestling prowess to take the fight to the ground, where he proceeded to land a bombardment of punishment on his hapless opponent. Forbes put an end to things at 1:38 of the opening frame via TKO, after he secured the mount and landed some nasty unanswered forearms to Moreno’s face.
