Nathan Mendelsohn’s American BJJ Player Blog: Bronze at the 5th American Cup

Hey everybody!!

Last week’s 5th American Cup was an awesome event as always and even though I injured my ankle a week earlier, I am glad I participated. I had two fights, winning the first by points against a tough opponent in Moses Baca of Gracie Fighter and losing the second by ankle lock to my injured ankle by Sean Roberts of Ralph Gracie. The whole week leading up to the tournament I wasn’t sure if I was going to compete and still hadn’t fully made up my mind until the moment I put my gi on, taped my ankle up and warmed up. On top of my normal motivations to compete, my 84 year old grandpa had traveled ten hours by car from Arizona to watch me compete so I really wanted to fight if it was all possible. I decided to compete and ended up coming away with the bronze as well as once again being able to hone in further my mental game for the worlds. Check out the video of my first fight above!

Next week I’m planning on heading out to Colorado to take part in the GFTeam training camp that will be taking place there to give my game another tune up before the worlds with all of GFTeam’s top athletes.

Stay tuned!!
