Nathan Mendelsohn’s American BJJ Player Blog: Seven Stitches As A Going Away Present!

Hey guys!

I’m here writing you with a week left in my trip to Brazil but it looks as if my training is already over for this year’s adventure to BJJ’s homeland as I have been left with seven stitches in my head after taking a knee at training yesterday. I was training with a fellow black belt and friend who goes by the nickname "Negao" and while sweeping him from the x guard I came hard down on his knee with my head and opened up the gash you see in the picture above. I knew that this area of the head, right above the eye, is prime for opening up and so I already expected when the blow struck that blood would follow. Sure enough it came dripping off of my head and on to the mat and I was off to the hospital to get sewed up. The doctor said a month without jiu-jitsu but that would put me out of the US Open so I don’t know if that’s really gonna work for me. The stitches come out in a little over a week and I’m going to stay hitting the physical preparation hard to stay in shape because I most definitely don’t want to be left out of the US Open. I’ve got my first seminar ever coming up next Tuesday at the Soul Fighters BJJ Headquarters at the Delfim Boxing Gym so at least I have that to look forward to before heading home!
