Nathan Mendelsohn’s American BJJ Player Blog: Technique of the Week #7

 Hey guys!

Back with a new Technique, this one is a video featuring myself that a friend of mine Ashoka McCormick made as a part of a technique series he does called Journal of A BJJ Player. I’m putting it up here in case you haven’t got a chance to check it out yet!! This pass is one that has worked for me many a time in competition and you can find a couple examples in this highlight from the US Open 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9xLZwUJA_M at 1:15 and 2:42.

To be clear, I do not claim to have invented this technique, nor any technique that I show here on my blog for I believe Jiu-Jitsu and all the moves within it have all been in existence from the very beginning and all we do is discover them for ourselves, adapt them into ways that work for us and put them together into new combinations of motions, positions and details. This is a version of the leg drag made popular by the mendes brothers and that Theodoro Canal used to mess around and call the "Mendelsohn Pass" while I was training with him in Brazil because it was one of the only ways I passed guard for a long time. I mentioned that story in my interview in the beginning of the video and Ashoka titled the technique "The Mendelsohn Pass" and now people within my team have come to call it by that name as well but to be clear I am not claiming to have invented this technique or started doing it before The Mendes Bros or anyone else, though I wouldn’t give them complete credit for its creation either.

Hope you enjoy the video and hope it works for you! Ossssssssss
