OntheMat.com has been lucky to have the US Open right in our back yard forever. We have all been competitors and fans there for many years. This is one of my favorite events of the year and I will not be missing it this year. You should COME CHECK IT OUT TOO!
Tournament Details~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~As official sponsors, of the U.S. Open Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu Tournament, we’d like to encourage you all to support “America’s Favorite Tournament.” Hosted by Claudio Franca Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium on October 20 and 21, 2007, The U.S. Open has been running for the last 12 years. In its just over a decade of existence it has acquired a reputation as THE tournament to go to if you want high-level competition, fair refereeing, friendly staff, and divisions run in a timely manner.
Over the years, the U.S. Open has set the standard which other tournaments follow for organization and competitor satisfaction, and that is why it has become known as “America’s Favorite Tournament.” The event is open to white – black belts in the junior, adult, master and senior age divisions, male and female.
In addition, the U.S. Open proudly presents the Brown and Black Belt Team Challenge 3, an open weight division tournament that pits 3-person teams against each other for a $3000 prize. The team that wins two out of three matches in a round advances to the next round and so on, until only one team remains. This format has proven to be a spectator favorite and is a good way to expose some of your non-jiu-jitsu friends and family to our beloved sport.

US Open donates 25% to Second Harvest Food Bank!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Also, whether you plan on competing and want those friends and family members to come watch you fight, or you would just like to show up as a spectator yourself, you should know that each year the U.S. Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament donates 25% of all ticket sales proceeds to a chosen charity. This year the U.S. Open will donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties.
