Oscar De La Hoya has had quite a ride, in the boxing world, in the business world… But recently there’s been trouble for the “Golden Boy…” Among other things, his most to-date “mishap” happened Wednesday night (Jan. 25, 2017) The former champ was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in Pasadena, Calif., He was reportedly seen at multiple bars in the area before the hall-of-famer was pulled over and after some amount of time, brought in at 2:00 in the morning.
That’s what TMZ says.
The “Golden Boy” has struggled with substance abuse before, this includes two stints in rehab one for alcohol and one for drugs. His company, Golden Boy Promotions, has been doing some somersaults recently, including beefs with Al Haymon and the former chief executive Richard Schaefer.
His boxing career was more than just “storied…” It included many featured bouts with the Pernell Whittaker, Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Manny Pacquiao gracing the ring alongside De La Hoya.
We all hope that Oscar gets any and all help he needs so that he doesn’t endanger himself nor others. In our eyes, plenty (more than we want) terrible tales from the combat sports world…
