www.thefightworkspodcast.comLast weekend, the first major Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament of 2009 took place: the 2009 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu European Championship! This tournament is not only the best congregation of Brazilian jiu-jitsu action in the European continent, but a great early look at how some of the major names in BJJ competition may fare at the BJJ World Championships in the summer.

We have brought you two guests to share the action of the 2009 BJJ European Championships on this week’s episode of The FightWorks Podcast. First is Stephen Hall. Stephen is a brown belt under Alliance who made the trip from Texas to compete in the competition, which took place in Lisbon, Portugal. Stephen himself ended up taking his weight division and the absolute and brings us right to the action of the biggest names like that of Braulio Estima, who took the black belt heavyweight division and the absolute division. (Stephen also blogs actively here.)

Our second guest is our old friend Jude Samuel, a black belt in BJJ under Gracie Barra in London. Jude will bring us an account of this year’s BJJ European Championships from the perspective of, well, a European! Jude was one of the first home-grown black belts in jiu-jitsu in the United Kingdom so he has lots to share. (Click here for full results of the event!)

We will also discuss a phone call or two we have received from The Mighty 600,000 on our FightWorks Podcast toll free number 877-247-4662.

Finally, don’t forget that we still have the gi patch photo contest underway! Entries must be provided to us by February 25th!
