Tecia Torres Draws New Opponent with Waterson Hurt

Tecia Torres was set to take on former Invicta FC champion Michelle Waterson at UFC 194, but an injury to Waterson stymied those plans. Waterson had made her debut earlier in the year with a win over TUF participant Angela Magana by submission in the third round, but a win over the number five ranked Torres would have catapulted her up the rankings. Now, she will have to wait.

Torres did not live up to her undefeated hey when she entered the TUF house. When she entered the house she had wins over Paige Van Zant, Rose Namajuanas and Felice Herrig. This did not help her as she was soundly beaten twice no the show even though she had seven wins in her amateur career. Even though being ranked third on the show, she was beaten by Randa Markos who was ranked 14th. She was given a second chance after an injury dropped Justine Kish out of the show, Torres rebounded with a win but was beaten by Carla Esparza again.

Since the show, she has had a lot more success. She beat the previously Angela Magana and the recently released Angela Hill, but seeing as those are not the wins that will get her a title shot, she is missing out by not fighting Michelle Waterson. Now, she has a new opponent in RFA champion Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger who has gone 6-1 since 2012. She made her debut at Invicta FC 2 but then moved to KOTC and then RFA where she made her current four fight winning streak. That was topped off with a win over Zoila Frausto for the title in RFA. This is a big chance for Jones to make a big splash in her debut. For Torres, she needs to win this fight as everyone is going to expect her to beat the debuting Jones. Who do you think will take this fight?
