Thursday Night Fights Returns This Week!



10/30/06: The next installment of “Thursday Night Fights” is just a few days away as the North American Amateur Fight Series (NAAFS) is set to showcase four of the nation’s premier amateur MMA teams this November 2nd in Akron, Ohio. The spacious Chaparrell’s Community Center in will once again play host to a scheduled thirteen bout fight card set to begin at 7PM. Each team will be competing for a $2500 gift certificate to Combat Sports International along with the “NAAFS Team Champions Trophy” which will be displayed in the winning team’s facility. The four teams participating on November 2nd will include:



Strong Style Fight Team – Based in Independence, Ohio the Strong Style Fight Team has already produced some of the sports top fighters including Dan Bobish, Forrest Petz and Jeff Cox. Head trainer and founder Marcus Marinelli is among the most respected trainers in the game today and promises to have his team ready for the challenge. As one of the most experienced teams in the competition, Strong Style will be led by welterweight “Smokin” Joe Heiland (5-0) and Michigan’s Terry “The Punisher” Davinney (5-4).



Team Air-GadFly – Team founder and martial arts world champion Gaffar Adams has seen his share of success through out his competitive career and is now making his mark in a new sport. Team Air-GadFly has dominated the tournament sport martial arts scene for years and in 2006 finally made the transition to MMA in a big way by capturing several NAAFS wins over the course of the 2006 season. Based in Jamestown, NY this group should not be overlooked as they are among the most well prepared teams in the series.



Team DNA – Founded by Dan “The Pennsylvania Hitman” Swift and based in PA, Team DNA burst on to the NAAFS scene in 2006 while emerging as one of the regions top overall teams. Lightweight Danny Balon has been a big part of the team’s success in 2006 with a 4-1 record and will look to continue his winning ways on November 2nd when he clashes with GriffonRawl’s Chuck Schilling (1-1).



Team GriffonRawl – Located in Mentor, Ohio the GriffonRawl team will also bring experience to the cage in welterweight AJ Pulling (4-2), light heavyweight Keith Smetana (9-5) and middleweight Milan Wesley (2-0). Led by trainer and UFC lightweight Jason “Dynamite” Dent, this team has been on a hot streak of late and has posted impressive NAAFS wins thus far in 2006. Team GriffonRawl will try to keep the momentum going by capturing the 2006 NAAFS Team crown.
