UFC 180 Predictions: Main Card

Fabricio Werdum vs. Mark Hunt

A lot of people are counting out Mark Hunt, but the bottom line is all it takes is one punch to knockout Werdum. The problem is for Hunt is that no fighter has been able to do that except for one, Junior dos Santos. It is a question of whether Hunt can land the shot and whether he has the cardio to keep up. It is no rumor that he ballooned up after his bout with Roy Nelson and is having trouble shedding the weight. Werdum has the grappling, the size, and the strength to win this fight which he will by third round submission.

Jake Ellenberger vs. Kelvin Gastelum

Both of these guys are young fighters, but one is on the rise while the other is falling. Ellenberger has found himself in the trap that Rick Story fell into long ago. They both came into the UFC and took the Octagon by storm, but slowly fighters figured out their game and they lost what made them so volatile. Now, it is like both fighters are neutered and rely on decent skills to win fights while their explosiveness is gone. As long as Gastelum does not have a bad weight cut he should take this fight by decision by just being able to out move Ellenberger.

Ricardo Lamas vs. Dennis Bermudez

A lot of people talk about Conor McGregor and Cub Swanson as the next title contender, but they are all sorely mistaken if they count out Dennis Bermudez. He is already a winner of seven straight fights, including finishes in his last two fights, and those also netted him knockout of the night bonuses. He has a few marked off his checklist including finishing hot up and comers like Jimmy Hettes and finishing a veteran in Clay Guida. Now, he has the chance to take out a former title contender in Ricardo Lamas. He has the ability to out strike and out wrestle Lamas on his way to a decision which should hopefully put him into title contention, because I do not know of any fighter who has had to win nine straight fights to vie for a title.

UFC 180 Predictions: Undercard

Leslie Smith vs. Jessica Eye

Jessica Eye was once a hot contender in the UFC’s women Bantamweight division when she took out top ranked Sarah Kaufman, but a failed drug test took that win away. Then she lost to eventual number one contender Alexis Davis by split decision. She is a tough fighter but clearly undersized which will happen again in her fight with Leslie Smith. Luckily, she should be fast enough to out pace Smith on her way to a decisively one sided decision victory.
